With the most great pleasure we announce that the 5th International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East will be held at Madrid in April of 2006.

1. History and Method of Archaeological Research New approaches on the study of the first archaeological excavations developed during the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Priorities will be papers about literature of trips and travellers in Near East, the first archaeologists and their excavations and methods, excavation techniques and documentation, the formation of the archaeological science in the Near East. 2. The archaeology and the environment of the ancient eastern villages and cities The archaeology and the natural sciences in cities and settlements reconstruction, urbanism and communications, kinds of life, rural and urban landscape from the origins of the preneolithic and Neolithic villages up to the second half of the first millennium a.C. with the collapse of the sassanian imperium. 3. Arts and Crafts in the Ancient Near East Studies and results obtained in the archaeological local excavation, workshops and places of work of craftsmen and artists. Equally they will be able to present communications on the oriental ancient art in its different manifestations as sculpture and relief, painting, glyptics, jewelry and any material production that could be an object of artistic or handcrafted analysis. 4. Reports of the results from the latest archaeological seasons Reports, news, state of issue. For each excavation only one report will be accepted. Field reports should stress the results rather than the details. With the collaboration of all participants, the Organising Committee will do its best to have the Proceedings of 5ICAANE available by 6ICAANE at the latest. In the handing over of documentation, the organisers will provide the Madrid Congress Card. You will be able to benefit from unlimited use of public transport: Underground, buses and suburban rail. The organisers are unable to provide an accommodation booking service and ask that participants make their own arrangements individually. The University Campus does not have any residence or hotel around it and the University is 15 Km far to North of Madrid. Any booking has to be done in Madrid city. Please consult the Madrid Tourist Board www.munimadrid.es or www.esmadrid.com or visit accommodation-booking websites. If you see the suburban rail and underground maps below, you can look for an accomodation close to a station well communicated with the Campus. [Campus map] [Rooms map] In Madrid-Barajas airport, you can take the Underground (called 'Metro') line 8 at 'Aeropuerto' station to Madrid. The best way to arrive to Campus is by suburban rail (called 'Cercanías'), taking it in any of these lines: - 'C1' to 'Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes'and leave it in 'Cantoblanco Universidad' station. In a number of 'Cercanías' stations there is interchange with 'Metro'. |
